Gabriel Viking has an undeniably rad skate and music taste. He can keep it rocking on basically anything he rolls on and the music he listens to is similarly diverse. You only have to watch his dope part in the Sci-Fi video Endless Beauty or check any of the rad edits he puts out to see and hear that.

So, we wanted to know what tunes have got him amped in the past and recently. After hitting him up for tracks and words for a playlist mix we were hyped when he came through with a heap of heavy hitters that we had never heard before. What was it like staying with Jerry before going to that first Endless Beauty premiere?

I was just staying at Jerry’s house, walking around, hanging out with his cats and stuff. We had a big dinner before and then we went to where the premiere was. We had it in LA. I think it was on Fairfax; it was at Braindead. From what I heard, they said, “Oh, if we can do a collab with you guys, we’ll let you rent out the theatre for free!”

So that’s what we did.

So we went there and I just looked at the line, and it was fucking packed! We had two viewings. At the first one were all the legends. The moment I walked past the line, I thought, Oh, there’s Spanky,  Nuge, and Ray Barbee was there.

Sick

I was thinking, “What is happening!”. I just looked down at the floor and walked past everyone, and just as I walked in, the people at the front were asking, “Do you want a beer or something?”. I was just like, “Dude, just give me an ice water, just an ice water please!”.

Then, yeah, it was maybe 40 minutes before they started showing the video. I probably went through maybe a whole pack of smokes.

So just before they were going to show the video. Then Jerry was all, “Oh, everyone needs to come up to the stage to talk about it!”. I was like, “Oh, fuck!”.

I had to stand there. I didn’t do anything. I just looked down at the floor. I had my hands in my pockets.

That experience sounds…

One second, I’m just walking down the street right now and some kid walked up to me and asked what shoes I’m wearing!

Compliments, man. Gotta take them.

Hell yeah!

I’m interested to know though too, what shoes are you wearing these days? Who’s your shoe sponsor?

Dude, I’ve been on and off everything I feel like. Right now, I feel like it’s been an off period because Sci-Fi got some shoes from Cons for a while. I think the guy that was hooking up those Cons for us was also super busy all the time. So, we lost contact for a minute, and I was like, “Fuck it, I guess I’m just a free agent!”.

Then I just tried a bunch of shoes that I’ve been wanting to try. I had some Adidas for a while. You know the Vinted app? I’m a fiend on that. I just find shoes for like 10 Krona and I buy them. So I was just on there for a minute and I thought, “Oh, low Chucks, I’ll buy like five pairs!”.

So then I had some Chucks and had some Adidas. Then during the Sci-Fi premiere trip, Akwasi got me some Asics shoes because I ran out of shoes, and they were nice, but I don’t know, it just didn’t really feel like me, if that makes sense.

I feel like Cons has become a comfort shoe in a way. So after the video came out, I got in contact with Cruickshank again, and he asked, oh, how are you looking with shoes? I was like, oh, yeah, it’d be sick if I could order some stuff?

Then he sent me another package and said, let me know when you run out, and we’ll get you sorted again. So now I’m back skating Converse!

Sick. That’s great news man.

I just feel now I must have tried at least one thing from every brand, and the one thing I go back to is a pair of Chuck Taylors or the Fast Breaks or the One Stars.

So I’m thinking that has to be where I’m aiming for. Now its just worked out. Now they’re sending me shoes, so I’m happy. I’m stoked as hell!

What was it like on that Endless Beauty Premiere Tour around the states and did a particular prem stand out for you?

The LA premiere was super, that was the biggest one I’d say because I met most people I’ve been wanting to meet my whole life.

It was everyone from the owners of companies to the riders, and it was everything at the same time, the feeling of everyone watching me skate and then hanging out with people afterward.

But I’d say the best thing about the premiere tour was probably just because America is so big. I feel it’s so different wherever you go, where it feels everyone has their own way of talking, dressing, and skating.

Every time we’d switch locations, we’d be in one spot for two days, skate, watch the video, then wake up the next day and go to the next state. I was always excited to find out, oh, I wonder how these people are gonna be.

Every place was so good, and I remember each place would almost one-up the next, where it’s, oh, this place was sick. These people dressed so cool, they talked in a funny way, and these people only skated flat. These people only skated a plaza and ledges, and these people just wanted to do goofy tricks.

That was my thing I was always excited about, seeing different cultures, going to different countries because the States is so big. It felt like every state was a new country.

I remember you said you said you’ve been there a few times.

I’ve been to LA a few times and San Francisco, yeah.

Did you still have a culture shock this time or did it feel more famillar?

Yeah. I mean, the funny thing is I can’t even think of something that culture shocked me. It was more just everything. I remember talking with them about, oh, this is fucking with me so much that you do this. It was a running gag where I said, oh, yeah, this. We don’t do this. They were like, oh, what! But I don’t know, I guess food and shit.

Everything’s so big and people are more social and they’ll talk to you more. Here, in Stockholm, people are more reserved and to themselves. But it kind of worked for me in a way because I guess I only hang out with skaters and we’re the most social people in Stockholm. We’ll talk to whoever.

Yeah.

I mean, I’m hanging out with Vincent Huhta all the time too, who is the most happy-go-lucky social person I know. So when I go to the States, it helps because it doesn’t really feel like that much has changed.

Oh, that’s sick. And it’s, you know, I remember the last time we were talking and you hadn’t met everyone on Sci-Fi. What was it like hanging out with all of them this time?

This was insane. This was the whole team for the first time.

The Sci-Fi Fantasy Crew: Endless Beauty Premiere (2025)

It was so cool. I almost wanted to cry at the dinner when everyone was there for the first time together, it was like what the fuck. Even Matt and Luke were there. The filmer and editor, Jerry. Everyone was there. It was so cool. It felt unreal, and spending time with them was amazing. It was almost two and a half weeks with them. I feel I got way closer this time because, the first time you’re all nervous and wonder, oh, do I have to skate super crazy? What should I do? What should I say?

After that first trip I’ve just been thinking about how I wanted to see them all again. I miss them all so much. I miss hanging out with them and talking about anything.

Now finally seeing them again, spending two and a half weeks together, I just felt I got way closer to everyone. You know, start having actual conversations about deep stuff or funny stuff or whatever.

What was your favourite part of the tour?

Yeah, I feel that was the best part of the whole trip. Just actually getting to know everyone on the team. I feel I had my moment with each person on the team, spent at least one time, during one of the stops where I sat down and actually talked with one of them and, you know, actually got to know him.

That, for me, was the best part where it’s, like damn, now I really feel like I’m really on it, you know, where I know them, they’re my friends. I’ve spent a lot of time with them now and I just wanna hang out with them again.

How about the back to back 540s, those were fucked. How did they go down?

That was Jerry’s idea because we were stressing about doing an ender for the video for my part, he would text me almost every week and say, “Hey, man, the part’s looking really good. Everything’s perfect, it looks nice, but you just need something to end it. We need something special, you know?”

I was thinking, I don’t know…I’m not really an ender kind of guy. Sometimes I’ll do something. It’s all just random when I film too. Sometimes I’ll have a good idea and think, “Oh, okay, I want to go to this spot, I want to do this thing.”

But most of the time I’m just hanging out with someone else that is out filming. I’m like, “Oh, this spot is sick. I should try this “Then it’s like, “Oh, that can kind of work as an ender, to be honest.”

So I think during that stress, I was thinking, “Just say something, tell me one thing to do and I’ll just try it!”.  Jerry was like, “Do a double 540 back to back on a mini ramp.”

I said, “Fuck it, I’ll try it!”

So, a few days later, I called Sean, who filmed most of my part, and I said, “Oh, I got this thing I gotta try. It might take a while, but let’s fucking do it”. It took a while, about half an hour, maybe 40 minutes, because it was so hard to get the speed for the second one. I kind of wavered for a minute because I was unsure if it should be higher or what I should do. Sean was like, “Dude, it’s not about how high it is. It’s about the trick, man.”. I said, “Yeah”. After he said that, I did it first try.

Back to Back Frontside 540 Ollies: Filmed for Sci-Fi Fantasy’s Endless Beauty.

Sick, sometimes you need to hear that

I was too fucking stressed about how it was going to look. He said, “Who cares about how it looks, dude? The fact that you’re doing two 540s is sick”. I said, “Okay, that’s all I needed to hear”. Then I just dropped in and did it.

You must have been dizzy after that. What was going through your mind on that one?

I actually got so dizzy that day. During the tries, I took a few breaks. I was like, okay, wait, just let me breathe for five minutes and not throw up while I’m doing this.

Oh shit. What are you up to right now, I forgot to ask?

Oh wait, I’m just going to say goodbye to a friend. We had a quick skate close to my work.

Cool. Where are you working?

I work at Carhartt. They opened a WIP store in Stockholm. It’s me and a bunch of homies who got a job there and then some new people I haven’t met, but they’re awesome. I love all my colleagues and I love my boss a lot. It’s the best workplace I’ve ever been to in my life. It’s also five or ten minutes away from a skate park. It’s actually where right next to the mini where I did the double 540 right now.

I didn’t know too much about WIP stuff before I started working there, but they’re killing it. I see all the new collections and stuff, and I actually started getting some clothes sometimes from this guy in Paris that works for WIP. We did a little shoot because I skate and I work there. So we did a fun little shoot thing that they’re gonna post soon.

So you’re skating for Carhartt now?

Not really. Kind of…I don’t even know. I get clothes sometimes.

It’s just a matter of time. Speaking of, what are some of your favourite songs that you reckon people out there need to hear?

Tracks I’ve been into for a long time…Well, the first one has gotta be Linkin Park, “Somewhere I Belong”. Yeah, I’ve been into that since I was a kid.

Also, let’s see. It’s gotta be “Freak on a Leash” too. That one’s a fucking banger.

“Faint” by Linkin Park too, that one is so good.

I love that one. That whole album, Meteora, That’s probably my favourite Linkin Park album.

Do you have a favourite song of all-time?

My favourite song is “This is the Day” by The The. Absolutely beautiful song. I’ve just liked it for a long time.

Another song I would love to put people on to, that was actually used in Jamie Platt’s pro video for Polar is called “Stars”by Hum. Really good tune. Very good band. The song is an absolute banger!

What’s the last all-time track you would recommend people need to check?

Another track that I’ve been listening to for a long time now that I really like, is “Birds of a Feather” by Kind of Like Spitting. It was used in the Thunder video that Frog did with Evan Wasser and Nick Michel.

Right. What about songs to skate to? Like tunes you’d probably listen to before you head out the door for a session

I actually have a few that I think, oh, this would be good for a skate video or a part

I mean you don’t have to blow it out if you’re gonna use them in the future, but keen to hear them.

There are so many songs anyway, so I’m just stoked if somebody uses it. But yeah, one of them is “Nosferatu Man” by Slint. It’s really good. Go listen to that whole Spiderland album. I have it on vinyl at home.

The second one is “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. Classic. They’re amazing. That song is so good.

Oh, dude, this is the end of every single early 2000s teen movie.

Yep, yep, It’s so good. I thought it’d be so fun to film a super serious part and then have that as a part song.

It’s a pretty unforgettable track. What else you got?

I got two more for you.

Rad. What’s the first one?

The first is “State of the World Address” by Biohazard. That bassline goes so hard. They are such a legendary Nu Metal band. I love Nu Metal.

Yeah, it’s tight. What’s the last one?

The last one I think would be rad for a part is “Judgment Night” also by Biohazard, but they got Onyx on the track.

This reminds me of Cypress Hill.

It’s so sick.

Right, so what tracks have you been listening to the most recently?

Thinking of recent tracks, is the perfect question right now because I watched a Tiny Desk thing a few weeks back, with that guy Turnstile, who jumped on the table and then jumped into the crowd and started a mosh pit in the office and I was thinking, who the hell is this? That last song was sick!

I went through all his albums, and he’s super gnarly, and he has a bunch of songs.

I’ve been listening to four of them on repeat for weeks now. The first one is called “7” by Turnstile.

But that one’s sick because it goes into the other one. It builds up. That’s what I love about it and that one goes into the second song that’s called “Keep It Moving “from the same album.

Then after that one, I usually always cue up another track from his new album. I thought it was so funny because I thought he had gone soft. I was like, oh no. He’s a guy that used to be super gnarly and a mosh pit metal guy. Now he just makes cozy songs.

But then one of the tracks on the new album is called “Birds,” and it fools you. It sounds like it’s just going to be some static or something, and then one minute in, it just unleashes. You gotta listen to “Birds” That’s the one.

A lot of skaters find new music from skate videos, is that the same for you?

I think for me, it’s because my dad’s always been a super big music nerd. He always listens to vinyl and stuff. So I think I’m so used to just hearing the song and appreciating the song. He’s always pushed me to listen to the whole track. He’ll be like listen to the drums, listen to the way they play, really listen to the bass.

So, really, if I find a good song, I’ll have headphones on and I’ll have full volume and almost close my eyes and really listen and be, oh, okay. Wow, shit, they did that?

I think also that’s why I like Birds, where it starts in that one. It’s super fast, it’s super hard, and then it just slows down. Then it goes into another kind of almost harder part, but it’s a different tempo. I think I like that because I grew up listening to a lot of Black Sabbath with my dad and they’ll have a chorus and everything for the whole song but then, towards the end, it’s almost like they switch up into another song in that song.

It just gets me so fired up where it’s, like okay, this song is heavy but then it kind of stops, and then you just hear a riff starting up, and you’re, like oh, okay. What’s happening? They’re gonna go apeshit now!

Yeah, I actually have one last turnstile song for you that’s worth checking out. It’s called The Blackout. That one’s really good too. I’ve been listening to it a lot recently.

Do you listen to mainly American stuff? Or are there any Swedish musicians you’ve had on rotation recently and would recommend?

I’ve been listening to some Swedish songs. Yeah, I got two from a band called Bob Hund. It’s basically like Bob Dog or Bob Hound.

The first one is called “Blommor på brinnande fartyg” – which basically means flowers on a burning ship in English.

Okay

I really like the chorus. It’s almost like they’re singing together in unison or something. It’s really. It’s a beautiful song. They’re really weird, this band. They’re from Skåne, the area where Malmo is. So they actually talk in a different way too. They sing in a very different Swedish accent from what I speak.

They also have another song. It’s called “Det Skulle Vara LäTt FöR Mig Att SäGa Att Jag Inte” – which means – ‘It would be easy for me to say I can’t find my way home, but I do, I think’.

So, the main thing he’s singing about is it would be easy for me to say I can’t find my way home, but I do, I think where he’s thinking about what he should say. He wants to go home with a girl. So he could just lie and be like, oh, I don’t think I can make it back home. So he’s like, it would be so easy to say I can’t make it home, but I could so I’m probably gonna say, I know I can make it home.

They had their last concert ever in Stockholm a few weeks ago. I went to that with my friend Louis, actually. They’ve said it has been their last a few times though…

Another Swedish group, I’m into another Swedish band called Kent too. I like their track “747” and “Stoppa mig juni (lilla Ego).

Yeah. It’s rad that you mentioned Black Sabbath earlier, they are one of our favourite groups. Do you have a favourite Sabbath tune?

My favourite Black Sabbath tune?  Let me think. It’s funny because if I pick something bad, my dad will probably kill me. I mean, I can give you three. Yeah, dude, I really like “Under the Sun”.

“Sweet Leaf” is rad too.

But one that’s really stands out for me, is “Black Sabbath” by Black Sabbath, from the first album. I just really enjoy the bit where Ozzy is like, oh, no please God help me. That one is so good.

It sucks that Ozzy Osbourne has passed away.

The impact he’s had all over the world too. The news is everywhere around Europe as well; everyone is going crazy, definitely.

It’s huge and sad news. So I know you said your dad inspired a lot of your interest but skate videos must be in the mix, you make so many banging edits yourself. Are there any tracks from skate videos that you really like?

I was really into this one from an old Danny Brady part, “Coming in from the Cold’” by The Delgados.

I have to mention this track from an Evan Wasser Frog section by HouseBoy called “Values Rejected”.

Then another I also got another one from the Polar Skate Co I Like it Here Inside My Mind video, it’s Jacob Ovgren’s part’s song, “Tenth Planet” by Solid Space. That one’s banging!

Also this one got me into Bad Brains a little bit. This is an incredible song in Grant Taylor‘s Debacle part.

The song is called “Universal Peace”.

I’ve also got to mention “Big Take Over”. That song actually put me on to Bad Brains, that was the second track I heard of there’s where I was like, oh, Bad Brains are really good. This song was in a really old Thrasher video that I watched when I was a kid, and I was like, dude, this is sick and I started listening to Bad Brains from that.

Also, “As The Curtain Falls” by Overcome, I really like the first song in this one but it doesn’t come on its own online. You have to listen to the whole album. But the first song in this one is from an EC Melodi video which is really, really good.

Just one last too by Libido Airbag, it’s not in a skate video, I don’t think, this tune has a very gnarly title but it’s a very cool song. It’s very black metal. It’s a controversial title, but they don’t really sing about any of that. I don’t know why they called it that.

Did you choose the song for your Endless Beauty section?

Oh yeah! They told me to send a bunch of songs and I think those two were one of the first ones I sent and he was like, yeah, these ones, it’s gonna be great. I’m really hyped that we got the opportunity to choose songs too. Sometimes people don’t get to do that.

For sure, you’ve got solid taste though so it was always going to be a banger. Before I let you go are you working on a new part for Sci-Fi or anyone else that you want to mention?

Well, I do have a lot of footage still in the chamber. So I think I’m gonna just film some more stuff and then probably send it to Matt and we’ll see what we do. Maybe put out a little extra Sci-Fi part for the channel.

I’m pretty sure we’re gonna do a solo part because I had a decent amount of footage leftover. So I’m gonna try to film a few more things…I’m gonna go battle a trick tomorrow hopefully or later this week.
