This is 2020 and so the éS ‘Menikmati’ video is 20 years old. To mark the anniversary, @esskateboarding is bringing to you a capsule of products, as well as some things to watch
.
That’s right, I didn’t have time to get much bored during quarantine. I started preparing various archive edits, that will be shared soon by éS
.
I thought I had already shown most of m archives, but I was wrong, and spent some serious time going throught the tapes again. Indeed, there are many of them I never looked at again since the making of the video
.
‘Menikmati’ was my very first major video for a brand. The success of the video then launched my professional carreer in skateboarding, well, as a filmmaker! It was a dream come true, working around the thing I loved the most, skateboarding. 20 years later, it is still going, and I’m still amazed. Starting skateboarding was the best thing to ever happen in my life
.
I will eternaly be thankful to @don_brown and Pierre-André Sénizergues aka @pas_skate for trusting me when they had the project to make this video .
Before I started filming myself, I was nerding out so much about skate videos, and understood the importance of every single ingredients to make a great video: the skateboarders, the filming, the spots, the editing, the music… This project was the chance of my life, and so important for all of us, the brand, the team…. so I gave it all my motivation and dedication, and éS provided all that we needed. I would have never guessed that people would still show some love for it 20 years after. Through out the making of the video, I stayed mostly confident, despite the pressure and what was at stake. The time I stressed out the most was during the premiere. I expected people to yell and shout, and instead everyone stayed rather quiet. At the end, during the credits, I turned around, and saw Pierre-André with tears in his eyes. That’s was the relief! The rest is history
.
Shoot out to the dream team of skateboarders I had the honour to film with: Rick McCrank, Bob Burnquist, Eric Koston, Arto Saari, Tom Penny, Ronnie Creager, and of course Rodrigo Teixeira, who started a succesful pro carreer with this video.
