As well as being an artist, Emil Nolde was a horrible person. Is it possible to separate the artist from the art, or does the work have to be digested in the wider context of who it’s creator was?
The amazing show ‘Kontrovers?’ At @kunstmuseumbasel asks these questions and many more, and is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time.
I didn’t leave the show feeling like I had answers to any of these questions, as the curatorial approach was entirely non-didactic, so I’m interested to see what you all think.
